Binding the Strong Man

No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. Mark 3:27

Binding the strongman is an act of power and authority and Jesus was able to effectively spoil the strongman’s house through healing the sick, casting out demons, raising the dead, calming the sea etc. because of His righteousness. Jesus  knew who He was, having no doubt regarding His power and authority over all things.

How did the strongman get to be strong and from where did his power and authority come: SIN Through sin/rebellion, he was able to usurp the legal power and authority that was given to Adam.

And the devil said unto Him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. Luke 4:6

Since the enemy was loosed by sin, its opposite, RIGHTEOUSNESS is what is required to bind him. In the presence of righteousness, sin has no answer.

The question for us my friends is ‘are we righteous’. As believers, who are we:

We are the righteousness of God in Christ.

For He hath made Him [Christ] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. 2Cor 5:21

“Your great faith is a function of the revelation of your authority and your authority is a revelation of your RIGHTEOUSNESS, your right standing before God. Righteousness is the key to understanding authority, which is the key to having great faith [which will effectively bind the strongman].” – Adapted from Barry Bennett’s teaching.
