God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24
How many of us as believers are aware that we are three (3) parts: Spirit, Soul, Body. In essence, man is a created eternal spirit that possesses a soul and lives inside of a physical body. Similar to an astronaut needing a space-suit in order to survive in space, in much the same manner, man’s spirit needs to be housed in a vessel of clay in order to survive in this earth realm.
The most amazing reason the gospel is such good news is that Jesus didn’t die to make us bad people good; but rather He died and resurrected to make us dead spirits live.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 1 Cor 2:12
When we become born-again, it is our spirits that become brand new. Our spirits which were once dead/separated from God has now been made alive. We are now back in communion with God. The Holy Spirit -yes, the same one that raised Jesus from the dead has now moved inside of us. Our spirits are now made righteous, perfect, and holy. In our spirits, we have the mind of Christ, enabling us to walk in supernatural wisdom, power and authority of God.
Note though that our bodies and soul [mind, will, emotions] are still the same. Our minds, which have been trained from childhood to give precedence to our 5 senses (carnality) must now be re-trained or renewed to the Word of God. This is a daily process and in reality this is where all our battles are fought.
For though we walk (live) in the flesh, we are not carrying on our warfare according to the flesh and using mere human weapons. For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds. 2 Cor 10: 3-4
The only way our bodies can do the things of the spirit is when our mind/soul is working in unison with the spirit.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
So we live by the spirit when our minds/soul are transformed by the Word of God and we reflect Christ’s Holy Spirit within us, our bodies will have no choice but to manifest the things of the Spirit.
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Rom 8:12 – 14
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Gal 5:16
