What we feed on is the fuel of our lives. Our bodies feed on food, our minds feed on information, our souls feed on events, relationships and emotions, and our spirits must feed on the Word which is Spirit.
Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; (Jer. 15:16)
Which ‘food’ is more important to you? The answer will reveal a lot about your present and your future. Those who focus on food will talk about food, think about food, crave food and live their lives around food. Those who feed on information will fill their minds with all of the latest news on whatever subject interests them. They struggle if separated from the latest information. It is what satisfies them. Those who feed the soul struggle if they aren’t happy emotionally and in their relationships. Their emotions rule.
While all of these areas comprise the reality of our lives, they should not be the source of our lives. We are spiritual beings created to live by and feed on the Word of God. Jesus said “man shall not live on bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” In other words, though we must eat and relate to our world and those around us, those areas cannot be the source of our lives. Only His words can satisfy and give us the strength and wisdom to live above the corruption in the world.
So….what are you feeding on? If your focus and passion isn’t God’s Word you will never be satisfied. The other areas I’ve mentioned will begin to dominate your life and leave you unfulfilled and stressed. A spirit that is nourished on God’s words will produce life and peace.
