Avoiding Self-deception

“whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: …And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:24-26

The only way to make sure we are not deceiving ourselves is to actually DO the sayings of Jesus. Retelling the word is not the same as doing the word – I think this is where we tend to deceive ourselves at times.  The storm was the same, however the difference laid in the foundations. The extra preparation requiring more time and effort to build upon a rocky foundation is absolutely worth it, as only the house that had its foundation grounded in DOING the Word of God was able to withstand the onslaught of the storm.

Father, I pray that we strive to do the sayings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ always.
