Dominion

From prior posting,  we know that man, created in the image of Elohim (God), was given dominion over all things that the creator had made.

¶  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:26)

Likewise, the man whom God formed from the dust of the ground (Adam) was given dominion over the garden into which he was placed.

¶  And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. (Genesis 2:8-9)
9  And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. (2:15)

Out of this ground also “the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof”. These were to be Adam’s “help meet”. We also see later that the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he took one of Adam’s rib to form Eve.

All these creatures were under the dominion of Adam as the Lord God decreed.  One of the beasts under Adam’s dominion was the serpent.

¶  Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? (Gen 3:1)

2  And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3  But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

WOW! Talk about the great deception. So the serpent (Satan) has managed to convince Eve that by being disobedient to her creator God:

1. Her eyes would be opened – Opened to what? Satan failed to tell her that though her eyes would be opened to the physical, fleshly things, they would be closed to the spiritual. She would be spiritually blind.

2. You shall be as gods – Conveying to Eve the prospect of godhood (immortality) when God himself said “you shall not eat.., lest ye die”. Who do you think was correct here?

3. Knowledge of good and evil – Again re-enforcing immortality. Satan’s great deception lies in telling Eve that by knowing good and evil she would be like God, thus living forever. Once more we know the true outcome. Death was injected into the vein of mankind, the only antidote was Jesus Christ dying on the cross defeating death.

The Bible does refer to him as “subtil”, “crooked”, “beguil[ing]” and a “deceiver”.

And so Eve was beguiled by the devil.

13  And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
14 ¶  And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

And so Adam and Eve were sent from the garden by God Almighty, to till the ground from which they were taken.

Because Adam was the one given dominion over all things in the garden, and now he and his wife lost their authority. The devil, Satan himself took this authority. It was not given to him by Adam, neither was it decreed to him by God.

What????????? You say.

And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. (Luke 4:5-6)
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (2Co 4:4)

To the believer, I want to say there is good news! There was a time-limit set on Satan’s dominion/rule which was set to expire when the seed of the woman will bruise the devil’s head. Praise God, Hallelujah.

14 ¶  And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Almighty God, Father and Savior of mankind. I give you thanks and praise for your word of truth. I thank you for sending your Son Jesus, conceived by the Holy Spirit overshadowed by the Almighty, born to a virgin to die for the salvation of us your children. Thank you for restoring us to the Father. You have overcome death thereby ensuring us eternal life, every one who believes in the name of Jesus. O what a marvelous gift. Father we pray for the opening of our minds, that you may continue to grant us wisdom, knowledge and understanding. All praise, honor and glory to God the Father. Amen.
